Goodwin's theory

Andrew Goodwin's Theory

1) a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.

in this video Mcfly literally interpret their lyrics, for example 'laughing the clouds away' and 'hear what the flowers say' both these lines and many others in the song are physically represented within the video.

2) a relationship between the music and the visuals.

3) Genre- related style and iconography present.

clear shots of iconography that you would relate to the genre

4) star image, multiple close up shots of the main artist or vocalist.

this is a clear example of enforcing the star and their image.

5) voyeurism often plays a major part especially in relation to females.
this is an example of a video where women are clearly persevered as objects and many of the shots of the women are 'beauty shots' focusing on their looks rather than them as people.

6) inter textual references to other media (brands, people)  texts may be present.

in this video there are several shots where 'beats' head phones or speakers are shown.
