genre conventions

the genre of my music video is slightly unconventional but all the same there are still expectations that come along with the genre of worship music.

it is hard to find music videos to give examples of the conventions of this genre because there are often hydrides of the worship genre combined with pop or soul.

for example the song shackles by Mary Mary is considered to be a pop/rap hybrid with worship.

this hybrid influenced my music video showing the importance of some kind of hope and religious imagery.

when looking into more detail at the specific concepts within worship music I came across the fact that most music videos out there are lyric videos. this is mainly because with this type of music it is not about the artist but about the lyrics and finding the he person singing finding a connection to god through the music. two clear examples of this are broken vessels by hill song and forever by Bethel music.

when plaining my video i took into consideration the fact that the purpose of this video and others like it is not to promote the album or the artist or the song but is to build and strengthen someone's religious relationship. thus completely going the typical conventions of a music video.

this meant that I had to completely re evaluate what the conventions of my video were and I came to the conclusion that it needed a strong performance based concept but not so much of a clear narrative structure. despite this I needed to ensure some kind of empathy and relationship was built between the viewer and the video. so I had to super in tune to the music its self and edit carefully to match the emotion portrayed within the track
