7. looking back at your preliminary task (continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
I have learnt that in depth planning of the shots and the shot sheet help continuity. from the continuity exercise we did, to our life on mars remake, to finally my film opening I have learnt the importance of shot planning and re shooting things. its always better to have more footage to work with rather than less.
when planning i became particularly aware of how to create meaning in a scene, not only from whats said and done but also the micro elements. so when planning i really had to visualize how i was going to edit it together and the digital storyboard helped with that. I also had to consider the mise en scene when shooting and i slowly became more aware of whats in the scene and how vital that is to the mood of the entire sequence.
As a media student i feel i have learnt key skills that will benefit future projects and work. I have further developed my understanding of the importance of micro elements and their meaning.

Evaluation question six
6. what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Before starting the processes of making my short film i had uses s few of the technologies before, such as final cut express, but this project has enabled me to understand the technologies a lot better. In the past i had used similar programs like adobe premier pro so i was aware of the basic set up.

when shooting i decided to use my own personal camera which is a nikon DSLR just because i was familiar with the set up and knew the quality was good.
overall i have furthered my understanding in the media technologies i used for this project.
Evaluation question five
5. how did you attract/address your audience?
when specifically thinking of the target audience for my film opening i focused on the mise en scene.
for example when looking at the family aspect of my target audience i specifically thought of shots that would show the audience the family aspect of the story.
I also focused on the look of the two main characters and how they reflected the specific target audience. the young man and the little boy had to reflect the exact feelings and emotions of the scene. so i stuck to dark colors nothing too bright.

Evaluation question three
What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?
when looking at distribution aspects of a film you
have to consider what different distribution companies represent.
different distribution companies are known for distributing different types of films. for example dreamworks animation is known for movie such as shreck and how to train your dragon.
when looking into what distribution company would distribute my film i had consider what distribution company would my film genre.
when looking at different distribution companies i found that fox searchlight pictures had distributed previous films similar to my film such as, 12 years a slave and little miss sunshine. other films they have distributed are similar to my own, drama with a charming story.
Evaluation question one
I decided to create a prezi presentation display my answer to the first question.

Desisions
Decisions
when filming i had to make some tough decisions and change my ideas slightly.
establishing shot - in my plan i had intended to have several establishing shots, but when it came to editing it became clear that the establishing shots were not essential to the narrative and and that for timing reasons they were impractical. therefore i decide to cut them.
over voice- i had originally planned to have a short over voice, i shortly realised that this was again not essential to the story line as well as using up time i couldn't afford to loose. i made the decision that the slightly edited version of my original plan felt right and flowed perfectly without the over voice.
